arts accessibility
Bekah holds the view that the arts are for everyone and works to ensure that her spaces are accessible for all actors, no matter how their brains and bodies work.
Bekah works in some spaces specifically designated as "barrier-free". She worked as the director of Theatre Unlimited, a theatre company out of the JCC of St. Louis that's been producing shows for over 30 years featuring adult performers with intellectual disabilities. She also works to remove barriers from all spaces she works in to ensure that Deaf and disabled performers can be included if they are the right performers for the role. She has experience collaborating with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, blind, and neuro-divergent performers, as well as those who live with other cognitive and/or physical disabilities.
Bekah is also an advocate for sensory-friendly, ASL interpreted, and captioned performances whenever possible. She works with a number of collaborators in the theatre community to ensure that performances can be enjoyed by those with different sensory or accessibility needs. Bekah also works as a consultant for other directors looking to improve the level of accessibility in their spaces. In 2020, she was featured as part of the Arts for Life Accessibility & Ableism and Authenticity in Theatre panels.
